A 14-year-old boy was rescued by firefighters in South Carolina on Saturday after he fell 40 feet into a well.
The teen was rescued in Gaffney, South Carolina. Just before 8 p.m. on Saturday, the Gaffney City Fire Department said it was notified of a person that had fallen into a well.
The fire department said in a Facebook post that when officials arrived, they were able to talk with the teen, who was able to keep himself above water by holding onto pipes.
A firefighter was then lowered into the well and was able to pull the teen out of the well at 8:24 p.m. local time. The teen was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The teen, identified by WSPA as Jaylen Byers, said he was playing with his brother when he “just fell.”
“I was shocked. I was scared. I was like, ‘What’s going on? How did I just fall down here?’ Byers told the outlet. “I tried my best to swim back up. I saw a pipe and was hanging on it the whole time.”
Byers said he had some scrapes and bruises from the incident, but was thankful for the rescue.
“I’m a little sore, but I’m grateful to be here living another day,” he said.
